Visit the old harbour of Enkhuizen
Enkhuizen is a harbour town with a rich past. This VOC town (Dutch East Indies Company) has many harbours and is, among other things, one of the most beautiful towns on the former Zuiderzee (now the IJsselmeer). The many café patio’s and restaurants in the harbours make the ‘Haringstad’ a lively town.
Stay informed with our digital newsletter:
In 1932, the construction of the Afsluitdijk closed off the Zuiderzee from the Waddenzee and the new inland lake was named IJsselmeer. The Zuiderzee Museum focuses on the history, current affairs and future of the IJsselmeer region. It is very picturesque and offers great photo opportunities. Visit the site here (available in English).

The extraordinary history of Snouck van Loosen
Margaretha Maria became famous mainly because of her legacy. She was the youngest of the six daughters of the Snouck van Loosen family. One of the most famous of her philanthropic projects are the overly large, 50 workers houses in the Snouck van Loosen Park near Enkhuizen station that formed one of the earliest social housing developments.
