Visit the old harbour of Enkhuizen
Enkhuizen is a harbour town with a rich past. This VOC town (Dutch East Indies Company) has many harbours and is, among other things, one of the most beautiful towns on the former Zuiderzee (now the IJsselmeer). The many café patio’s and restaurants in the harbours make the ‘Haringstad’ a lively town.

Brouwerij de Werf, Enkhuizen’s city brewery, is our next-door neighbour and definitely the place to be for Beer, Food & Fun. Taste some of the locally brewed beers in the waterside beer garden or in the industrial tasting room. Book a tasting session or a guided tour of the brewing vats (limited availability). Cheers! Visit the Dutch language site here or ask at the hotel reception if you would like help in making a reservation or booking a tour.
We are also the proud owners of a small, intimate restaurant, located in a former Fish Auction hall in the beautiful harbour area of Enkhuizen. The restaurant has an outdoor seating area set on the Ijsselmeer with a fabulous view of the incoming fishing cutters and sailing yachts. Soak in the scene while enjoying a snack and a drink. Our atmospheric restaurant welcomes young and old alike.

In 1932, the construction of the Afsluitdijk closed off the Zuiderzee from the Waddenzee and the new inland lake was named IJsselmeer. The Zuiderzee Museum focuses on the history, current affairs and future of the IJsselmeer region. It is very picturesque and offers great photo opportunities. Visit the site here (available in English).

The extraordinary history of Snouck van Loosen
Margaretha Maria became famous mainly because of her legacy. She was the youngest of the six daughters of the Snouck van Loosen family. One of the most famous of her philanthropic projects are the overly large, 50 workers houses in the Snouck van Loosen Park near Enkhuizen station that formed one of the earliest social housing developments.
